Furness & South Lakeland Charity Cruise

24th July 2010

£1,100 raised for Charity.

The middle of summer………… a hosepipe ban is in force…………an evening cruise is booked on Lake Windermere in aid of Group Charities………….Ladies in summer dresses………..Men in short sleeved shirts……………..AND IT POURED DOWN!

Once again the Annual Group Charity Event lived up to its reputation as the annual rain dance.

However no matter what the elements threw at us, it did not stop 150 Brethren, wives and guests enjoying themselves.

Following a sumptuous buffet the guests were entertained to music from Peter Bigland, and many enjoyed the dancing on the top deck

The “funny money” roulette again proved popular and the winner of the Nokia SatNav/Mobile phone was Ian Thompson of Hartington Lodge. The winner of the first prize in the raffle was Gilbert Bushby from Newby Bridge Lodge who will now no doubt be snapping away on his new Digital Camera.

The serious part of the evening was to raise money for our charities, and thanks to the generosity of all attending the event raised £1100.

I would like to thank all who attended, our sponsors and the team that helped arrange and plan the event. The event was summed up by one “very happy” brother at the end of the evening who said “the weather does not matter, it’s the company that makes the event and I have had a great time”. So everyone who attended give yourself a big pat on the back, and thank you all very much for your support.

Group Charity Steward

None of this would have happened without the hards work of the organisers, Russ Greenhow, Willy Long, Dave Grainger and Phil Preston above.

Not forgetting the sponsors:-

Little Tony's Tyres, Guy Perry Peugeot Ltd, Schofield Construction, Bob's Breaks, R Forrest Electrical, Furness Windings, T B Group Ltd, Terry Chemicals.

What a lovely way to celebrate your birthday, a cruise on Lake Windermere.

Russ Greenhow and Dave Grainger celebrating their birthdays.
